It’s hard to see what’s right in front of you

This would be a great title for a country song. Or wise relationship advice. Perhaps being in the eye of a hurricane is a good analogy and can help explain things more clearly.

In the center of a tropical storm the weather is calm with clear skies. You can’t see the storm that’s right in front of you and in fact all around you. If you were looking from outside of the situation (as an experienced Meteorologist with weather radar would) you could see the wider picture and predict the path. But, if you’re in the middle of it all it can be difficult to see everything that is happening around you.

The same thing happens with spas. As an owner or manager, it can be hard to see and analyze what you’re looking at every day. Like proof reading, after awhile it can be difficult to see what needs to be improved. The more you look, the harder it is to see the obvious. Getting a fresh look from an honest and objective perspective can be eye opening (no pun intended regarding the hurricane).

At times, critical and costly decisions are made without a wider picture or enough research. Desired results aren’t obtained. Having as much accurate information as possible is essential to making good decisions.

Every spa requires periodic operational and financial evaluation. Gaining a fresh perspective allows impartial evaluation and identifies areas for improvement. Even making small changes can have a big impact. These changes may include adjustments to price structure, compensation, budget projections, retail merchandise mix, incentive programs, evaluation of product lines, and website enhancement. Evaluate where you are today. Achieve perspective and clarity. Devise a plan, strategize the implementation, lay out the action steps, and move forward.

Having an objective audit performed by knowledgeable experts can reveal insights into your business which can increase revenue, reduce expenses, and improve guest, staff, and owner satisfaction. It is well worth the investment.
